Feeding A Newborn Baby

Feeding a newborn baby baby can be stressful those first many weeks because newborns usually eat about every 3-4 hours and some babies can eat even more often if they are breast fed because breast milk is more easily digested than infant formula.

As the weeks go by, the time between feedings will increase as your baby sleeps more between meals however the amount she's eating will also increase. The good part is that you'll find that you can sleep longer too. Most rest will equal a much less stressed mom or dad.

When feeding your baby - try to switch whichever arm you use to hold your baby so that your baby will eat on either side. This will enable you to avoid having one arm become fatigued and also having a baby that will eat in only one position.

If you are bottle feeding your newborn, another good thing to do is to stop and burp your baby about halfway through a meal. This is a great way to ensure that your baby keeps most of her meal down instead of burping up a good portion of her meal from all the swallowed air that happens during feeding.

To make their baby sleep longer, some parents cut a larger hole in the bottle nipple and mix the formula with rice cereal. This should not be done because your baby's digestive system isn't ready for solid food and secondly there is a danger of choking.

Use these tips and get through those first weeks of life less stressed and enjoy feeding your newborn, these times pass very fast and soon you'll have a toddler that not only self feeds, but will tell you in no uncertain terms what she wants to eat and it won't be a bottle of infant formula!
